On July 1, 2008, The Awen Group opened its doors…from the basement of a co-founder’s home. Since then we’ve grown and expanded from her basement, to our office in Uptown Shelby and to an additional space in Downtown Belmont. Five years is quite a milestone for a business that began at the start of the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. The time has flown by and it’s been an amazing journey.  So, we are taking a few moments to reflect, and wanted to share with you some of what we’ve learned in our first five years of business.

Have a Vision…and a Plan
We know you’ve heard the saying, “failing to plan is planning to fail” well, planning IS an important step, but it all begins with a vision.  Five years ago we had a vision, we developed a plan that included a set of short term and long term strategies, then we implemented our plan, making our vision a reality.  Each step along the way has taught us and helped us grow.  We have established checkpoints and readjusted our plan to help us remember who we are and who we want to be.  We’ve learned that we are a perpetual work in progress.

Share the Load
We’ve learned to share the load.  Business has its fair share of ups and downs and having the right people in place can make a difference.  As a small business, we each wear many hats and it is so important to have people who excel in diverse areas.  We juggle many projects at a time, each in a different phase of the development process. In addition to our client’s projects, we work on the “business” of the Awen Group, from day to day operations to the growth strategies that will carry us successfully far into the future. We share the load with energy and enthusiasm, and value each member of the team as much as we value ourselves.

Teamwork
We have an amazing team at the Awen Group!  We are blessed with a team that has just the right combination of talent, experience and skill, making it possible for us to provide our clients with the innovative and comprehensive solutions that they need to be successful. Over our years together, we’ve learned to understand and appreciate our strengths and weaknesses. We share the many facets of our workloads and we each feel free to communicate our opinions and views for the best possible outcomes.  Our team is our most valuable asset.

Be Prepared for the Unexpected
We’ve learned to embrace change.  Sometimes the plans we work so hard to develop don’t go the way we anticipated, so it’s important to accept the changes as they come. These last five years have produced changes in the marketplace, in technology and in marketing techniques.  As much as the services we offer today are the same, they are remarkably different.  We love to learn and consistently search for the newest marketing trends and tactics.  Then we look for ways to incorporate them into our business practices and to offer them to our clients.

Value Community
The Awen Group believes in the communities in which we are building our business.  We not only remain keenly aware of the support of these communities, but are humbled by it.  And we are dedicated to offering our support in return.  We strive to build community around our brand and our clients’ brand, and we embrace collaborations with all, including those in our industry.

Life gets busy and schedules are overwhelming…and life becomes just about the “doing.”  So, we’d like to take a moment to express our gratitude.  We say thank you to our clients, our vendors, our partners and most of all for the opportunity to serve.  We know for sure that we appreciate whatever and whomever shows up in the life of the Awen Group.  And because of being grateful for what we have and not focusing on our have-nots we can find joy in the work, the people, the challenges and most of all the simple moments of celebrating a job well done. Five years is just the beginning!
